Kdun – Oregon Boosts Cash incentives to crack down on illegal fishing and poaching activities, doubling rewards for those who report offenders. The state’s conservation groups have taken a strong stand against poaching, offering financial motivation to encourage public participation in protecting Oregon’s fish and wildlife.
Oregon Boosts Cash rewards to $400 for individuals who report specific illegal fishing offenses leading to an arrest or citation. This significant increase aims to enhance enforcement and deter unlawful activities harming local fish populations. The Oregon Hunters Association (OHA), Coastal Conservation Association of Oregon (CCA Oregon), and The Association of Northwest Steelheaders (ANWS) joined forces to fund this initiative, reinforcing their commitment to preserving Oregon’s natural resources.
Through the Turn In Poachers (TIP) Line, concerned citizens can anonymously report suspected poaching, ensuring a proactive approach to conservation. The expanded incentive program covers a range of violations. Including illegal take methods, exceeding bag limits, and retention of protected species.

Among the targeted offenses is snagging. A harmful practice where fish are intentionally hooked anywhere other than inside the mouth. Unlike legal fishing methods that allow fish to bite the lure naturally. Snagging disrupts fish populations and threatens ecosystem balance.
Other violations under the expanded reward program include:
By increasing financial rewards, conservation groups hope to raise awareness and encourage more people to take action against poaching in Oregon’s waterways.
According to CCA Oregon Executive Director Pat Hoglund. This initiative strengthens conservation efforts across the state. By providing monetary incentives, it empowers residents to take a more active role in safeguarding Oregon’s fish and wildlife.
This reward boost reflects a larger movement toward preserving Oregon’s natural environment. As poaching remains a significant threat, the collaboration between conservation groups and public involvement plays a crucial role in ensuring sustainable fish populations for future generations.
