Kdun – Bear sightings on the rise have prompted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to issue a public advisory. Over the past several weeks, there has been a noticeable increase in bear encounters across various neighborhoods in the county. While most of these sightings have not resulted in direct confrontations, authorities urge residents to exercise caution and take preventive steps.
Sheriff’s deputies report that bears, likely in search of food due to seasonal shifts, are venturing closer to populated areas. Garbage bins left outdoors, bird feeders, and even pet food bowls have become attractants for these animals. Wildlife officers believe the pattern is consistent with previous autumns but warn that this year’s numbers are higher than average.

In response to bear sightings on the rise, Lincoln County officials have launched an awareness campaign across social media and local radio. Residents are encouraged to secure trash, avoid leaving food outside, and install motion-activated lights to deter wildlife.
“Though bear attacks remain extremely rare, we’re taking these sightings seriously,” said Sheriff Mark Holtz. “Our primary goal is to protect both residents and the animals by avoiding unnecessary conflicts.”
The sheriff’s office also asks the public not to approach or attempt to feed bears. Instead, sightings should be reported immediately through the county’s wildlife hotline. Deputies and wildlife officials continue to patrol affected areas and install signs to alert passersby.
Experts attribute the surge in bear sightings on human development encroaching into bear habitats, along with seasonal food shortages. As natural food sources like berries and nuts become scarce, bears widen their search area often into backyards and rural roads.
The county is working in coordination with the state wildlife department to track movements and assess whether relocation or deterrent measures are necessary. Public education remains a key strategy in coexisting with the region’s natural wildlife.
As Bear Sightings on the rise continue into the coming weeks, Lincoln County remains on alert urging residents to stay informed, vigilant, and safe.
